Difference between thesis and action research

The second way one uses the word "thesis" is in reference to a major paper that one writes as a capstone for his or her bachelor's or master's degree. Whereas term papers are projects that last one term, theses are projects that last several terms. Theses are usually much, much longer than term papers, often stretching past two hundred pages. Perhaps counterintuitively, however, theses often cover much more specialized topics than term papers. For example, one may write a term paper on Herman Melville for a literature survey course, but one would be much more likely to write a thesis on homosexual symbolism in Herman Melville's Moby Dick or on some other extremely specific aspect of one of Melville's novels. In fact, one could write an entire thesis on a single paragraph of Moby Dick . The goal of a thesis is to expound fully one's opinion on a given subject and to confront and exhaust all the opposition to that opinion. Therefore, one usually specializes his or her thesis topic almost to the point of absurdity.

Correct me if i am wrong, i think these three categories are actually some what of an evolution,
one usually start of as person who is here to prove a point, or like u have said “they don’t just need to know that stuff works, they have to prove it” in a way, at one stage of our life we were like this, we dint care for how our code looked, we just had to prove a point, “yes its possible!!”
But as time goes, i think we tend to shift to being a programmer and start to be more “sober” while writing codes, we try to improve performances (i think thats d quality of a programmer) and things like that, and finally we become a developer, where we are not alone, i think thats when things become more of team game.. once again, this is just a opinion , correct me if u think i am wrong.. :) I am sure some will :)

Sometimes it is also accepted that the author simply provides constructive critical analysis of existing theories or viewpoints without necessarily offering any new ones. In short academic requirements for a thesis, especially the demand of originality, are much higher than for a research paper. Each university sets its own rules and regulations for presentation style and the length of a thesis depending on the research area. In some universities the rules can be stricter, foreseeing very specific style and format requirements. There are however certain components that are always prerequisite in thesis presentation style, such as table of contents or abstract. You may include a dedication or acknowledgement and depending on the research field, graphics, tables or research methods. All the aforementioned components might not be expected in a research paper. However, as both are academic documents bibliography together with accurate referencing must be presented.
